Ghetto Philosophers

October 20, 2006

The great minds of the gutter gathered once to discuss the politics of failure.

Solemn men of no consequence, they cared little for the outcome, and less the company, yet each spoke their turn

“And beauty, does it still consume?” accused the first to speak

The hollowed masses ached, then answered “it does”.

“What of men?” called the next “are  they still so very tired

“Nodding with exhausted grace, they affirmed “What rest is there to have”

“Will we be remembered, then?” a question of formality

The youngest broached a bitter smile “We were born forgotten”

The best of them were broken; ragged and worn into anonymity.

Bearing heavy truths best learned in abstraction, ugly hope eroding maxims;

they shuffled back into the ceaseless world
